The Taxi Factor & Fork Split Muffins

Random reflections tonight. Trying to write more and opting for the
blog (where I can spell check) instead of my mead composition book.

All my friends and Bixby just love
to take taxis and it drives me crazy. First there is the financial
aspect of spending 7 to 10 bucks on a cross town fare. Then there is
the car-sick factor either from cloying air freshener or b.o. of the
driver or pungent food being consumed by the driver. This of course is
what you get if you're lucky enough to get a vacant on-duty cab. And
the sass one gets from drivers, or the confusion thinking that they are
muttering to you when, in fact, they are on their cell phone. So, no
taxis for me.

I'd sooner pile into a crowded subway for a flat 2
bucks. Sure you may get a car with a stinky homeless person, but the
people watching is ever-engaging.

And
another thing. A couple of weeks ago, Natasha, our assistant, flummoxed
me as we discussed "fork split" English muffins (in an effort to save
money and lose weight, I've taken to bringing lunch to the office:
Campbell's soup, lean cuisine or tuna salad on a toasted English
muffin). So, as the packaging
for Thomas' English Muffins reads, I've always used the tines of a fork
to split my muffin. Now, I'm told (still not certain if I believe it)
that the phrase "fork split" has to do with the fact that while baking
a fork is used to create the nooks and crannies and to make it easier
to halve the muffin (with a knife) when ready to eat. Can this be true? Have I mistakenly lived my life diligently using forks to split my Thomas' muffins?

Ah, the misunderstandings of life. Makes me remember the story my friend Reed told me about a friend talking about Patti Lupone on the road in a convertible car and Reed hearing "bad to the bone"

No no no, that's nto what I said! MISQUOTED! What I said was that the muffin has already been "fork-split" in the factory, so therefore; you can just peel it apart with your thumbs if you would like. I don't think there is any problem with cutting it open with a knife...although, if it is already "fork split" then why waste the extra time? Just sayin'.

My mamma always taught me to split the english muffin with a fork, as you describe, so as to maximize enjoyment of the nooks and crannies. Or nooks and grannies, as I thought it was when I little.
